When I disconnect the USB-C power adapter for my system from the adapter, my connected monitor will flicker and the USB device will disconnect.

This is expected behavior as outlined in the USB-IF Power Delivery R2 V1.0 specification. When this occurs, our adapter is switching the internal power source and this results in a power cycle of the adapter itself. After a short moment, all connected devices should reconnect automatically once the power source has changed.
